In this page you will find all the information you will need to complete and develop the next projects we will work on.
Information on the topic will be posted and then the instructions and few things you need to know to complete your tasks. Our next topic is about Europe.

Europe landscapes
Europe is bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the east by Asia, on the south by the Mediterranean an Asia , and on the west by the Atlantic Ocean.

Plains and mountains
The plains extend through the central and eastern parts of Europe.
At the centre, lies the Great European Plain bordered to the north by the Baltic and North Seas and to the south by the Alps and the Carpathian Mountains.

The highest mountain system in Europe is in the south. Most of the system borders with the Mediterranean Sea: Pyrenees, Alps, Carpathians, Balkans and the Caucasus mountains. The highest is the Elbrus in the Caucasus.

Lower mountains under 2500 m: Scandinavian Mountains and Ural Mountains that form the border between Europe and Asia.

Europe has many different features:

Peninsulas: like the Scandinavian, the Iberian, Italian( land surrounded by water except one side)

Gulfs: Large bays. Like the Gulf of Bothnia, the Lion or Bay of Biscay

Capes : Points of land extending into the water; like North Cape, Cape Finisterre.

Fjords and inlets: valleys into which seawater enters. Fjords are made of glaciers. They are only found in the Scandinavian Peninsula.

Islands: land surrounded by water in all it sides. There are many in Europe. Iceland, Ireland, British Isles, Balearic, Canary Island…..

Europe has many rivers classified by watershed (according to the ocean they flow in).

  • The Arctic Watershed. They have a large volume of flow. They freeze in the winter.  Ex: The Pechora .
  • The Atlantic Watershed. They have the greatest volume in Europe. Ex:The Elbe, The Rhine
  • The Mediterranean watershed. They have a low, irregular volume of low. Ex:The Ebro, The Rhode
  • The black Sea Watershed. They are very long and they have great volume Ex: Danube.
The Caspian Sea Watershed: they are long rivers with a large volume of flow. The longest river in Europe is the Volga.

They are grouped by location:
Northern Lakes: large and deep. There are many in Sweden, Finland, Russia.
Southern Lakes: small and not very deep. Albufera In Spain.
Alpine Lakes: are found in the mountains as the Alps.

The  European climates are classified into:

  • OCEANIC CLIMATE:  The temperatures are mild in summer; precipitation abundant and regular. It has got 4 seasons. Great Britain is a country with this climate and all areas in the atlantic ocean and central Europe.
THE VEGETATION: Meadows and deciduous forest ;oaks; bushes.
  • MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE: Temperatures are high in Summer and mild in winter. Precipitation is not abundant, above all in summer. Mediterranean coast and some interior areas in the south of Europe are in this climate.
THE VEGETATION: evergreen forest; olives; cork, rosemary.

  • CONTINENTAL CLIMATE: Temperatures are high in Summer, but very low in winter. Precipitation is higher in summer.. Areas in the Eastern Europe are in this climate.
THE VEGETATION: Steppes ( plains with poor soil. Grass) and Taiga.(forest of evergreen trees pines and firs)

  • POLAR CLIMATE: It is the coldest on Earth. Temperatures are between -50º in winter and 15º in summer. Precipitation is scarce. Russia and Scandinavian countries are in this climate.
THE VEGETATION: very little. Tundra(mosses, lichens).

  • MOUNTAIN OR ALPINE CLIMATE: The temperatures are very low in winter and cool in summer. Precipitation is abundant. The highest points of the continent are in this climate.
